Open Spaces January . . . the 8.5" x 10" pieces
I caught a very bad case of Covid in October 2024 and spent most of November and December watching the sky from my comfy office chair. Once the worst of the symptoms were over, I started to enjoy the quiet, unscheduled days. The lack of energy kept me resting, doodling, dreaming.
Come January with an open calendar, I started making these pieces. I call them Open Spaces. I love wide open landscapes and I guess wide open schedules.
They start with India ink on either handmade Japanese washi paper or Arches cotton paper, then I add black machine stitch, then a mixture of watercolors, and pigments. I brought a few of them into my house. They felt fresh, clear, lovely and like open space.
Each month I plan to explore this concept of Open Spaces. It’ll be fun to see what happens next.
These are the ones from January. They come in two sizes - 4” x 5” and 8.5” x 10”. Just like with the Mottainai pieces, I ship them unframed in cardboard envelopes. It makes it so easy for me, cuts down dramatically on my time and expense, so I can sell them at affordable prices. The small ones include hand stitch and are $50 and the larger ones are $75.
Signed and dated in pencil on reverse.
